La Salle Legacy Shines On From UAAP, To PVL, To Alas Pilipinas

WHEN it comes to college volleyball, La Salle has produced some of the country’s best talents over the last three decades under Ramil de Jesus’ watch.

The 12-time UAAP women’s volleyball champions even hold the distinction of being the only school to have at least one former Lady Spiker in all 12 PVL teams today.

That green-and-white stamp that has made an indellible mark in the pros has cascaded into the national team scene.

Out of the 16 players in Alas Pilipinas’ squad for the 2025 SEA V.League, seven of them hail from the Taft-based school.

And there’s even at least one La Salle player in all five positions.

Part of Alas’ core of spikers are former UAAP MVP Angel Canino and Capital1’s Leila Cruz as outside and opposite hitters, respectively.

La Salle’s Season 85 champion Taft towers in Akari’s Fifi Sharma and ZUS Coffee’s Thea Gagate are two of four middle blockers for the regional meet.

The finals MVP of that season in Mars Alba is Alas’ second-choice setter behind team captain Jia de Guzman.

Both liberos for the tournament are full-fledged La Salle floor generals in Dawn Catindig and Justine Jazareno.

Excluded in that count but still part of the Alas pool are the likes of Amie Provido, Alleiah Malaluan, Julia Coronel and Shevana Laput.

For the 'ate' of Alas Pilipinas' green-and-white subunit in Catindig, it's been both a joy and a responsibility to carry out RDJ and La Salle's winning legacy not only in the pros but in the international stage.

They may be wearing shades of blue and red as they fight for the flag, but there will always be a vibrant hint of green running deep within each Lady Spiker called to serve the country.

"Happy ako kasi alam ko 'yung pinagdaanan din nila. Lahat ng natutunan ko from La Salle, talagang nabaon ko siya wherever I go," the three-time UAAP champion said.

"For them na nasa national team na rin, it just proves na 'yung sistema ni coach Ramil [de Jesus], talagang produces great players."
